First record of Botryosphaeria ribis associated with leaf spots on Magnolia aff. candollei in Brazil BJM
Macedo,Davi Mesquita de; Barreto,Robert Weingart.
A leaf spot disease was observed attacking some Magnolia aff. candollei plants grown in a private garden in the city of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. Such leaf spots coalesced and led to extensive blight of foliage. A fungus was clearly associated to the disease symptoms and was identified as Botryosphaeria ribis. Its anamorph, Fusicoccum ribis, was also present, although less abundant than the teleomorph. This is first report of this fungus on this host in Brazil and the first record of any fungal disease on a member of the genus Magnolia in Brazil.

First record of Tetra magnolivora (Keifer, 1939) (Acari, Eriophyidae) in Brazil PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Flechtmann, Carlos Holger Wenzel; Amrine, James; Queiroz, Dalva Luiz de.
Tetra magnolivora (Keifer, 1939) (Acari, Eriophyidae) new combination was observed infesting Magnolia grandiflora L., in urban areas of Curitiba, Paraná State, Brazil. This mite was observed in high populations on magnolia trees, causing wrinkles, distortion and decreased growth in infested leaves. This is the first record from Brazil for T. magnolivora and we provide new combination.

New varieties of Magnolia biondii and Magnolia cylindrica (Magnoliaceae) in China Naturalis
Wang, Y.L.; Ejder, E.; Yang, J.F.; Kang, Y.X.; Ye, W.; Zhang, S.Z..
Magnolia biondii var. purpurascens var. nov. and Magnolia cylindrica var. purpurascens var. nov. (Magnoliaceae) are described as two new varieties endemic to China. Magnolia biondii var. purpurascens is mainly restricted to forests of Shaanxi and SE Gansu provinces. It differs from the typical variety, M. biondii var. biondii, in the dense indumentum of white hairs on twigs and the cup-shaped purplish red flowers. Magnolia cylindrica var. purpurascens occurs in secondary forests of Jingning and Songyang counties of southern Zhejiang province. It differs from the typical variety, M. cylindrica var. cylindrica, in the cup-shaped flowers of purplish red colour. The two new varieties are distinct in their distributions in both cases but share the chromosome...

Taxonomic revision of Magnolia section Maingola (Magnoliaceae) Naturalis
Kim, Sangtae; Nooteboom, Hans P.; Park, Chong-Wook; Suh, Youngbae.
Magnolia section Maingola Dandy is distinguished from other members of Magnoliaceae by the combination of a terminal brachyblast, cylindrical fruits, and free stipules. Morphological characters were re-examined for section Maingola and section Alcimandra, which has been considered to be closely related to the former. Although section Alcimandra is separated from section Maingola in having long stamens which hide the gynoecium, it is combined with section Maingola because this feature is frequently found in various other taxa of the family. Moreover, recent molecular phylogenetic studies have also demonstrated the close affinity between sections Maingola and Alcimandra. For the Magnolia macklottii complex, which has been problematic due to the wide range of...
